In honour of cybersecurity awareness month, WW Works conducted a webinar to discuss all things email phishing with our partners from FieldEffect.

This webinar was jam packed with valuable information that can help protect you and your organization from a phishing attack.

Don’t worry. In case you missed it, we recorded the whole thing and are here to guide you through it.

FieldEffect, a valued partner to WW Works, was founded in 2016 and has already grown drastically with offices across North America, Australia, and the UK. FieldEffect has deep cybersecurity roots and is led by two principles- that everyone should have access to cybersecurity, and that you don’t need cybersecurity expertise to be protected. Our host, Earl, has 19 years of experience in cybersecurity and works alongside the Canadian government as a cybersecurity advisor. With a background in political science, Earl brings a unique perspective to the cybersecurity space, seeing it as both a technical security and complex espionage challenge. All that to say- Earl knows what he is talking about, and we’re the lucky ones who get to listen.

In this one-hour long jam-packed webinar, Earl discusses the evolution of email and email security and why email is one of the biggest proponents in a cyberattack. He reviews some of the most common threats affecting businesses today (think: phishing, spear phishing, whaling, and the like), and breaks down the eerie thought processes of a cyber attacker themself that leads them to specific targets and actions.

In understanding the anatomy of email phishing, we are able to better appreciate and remain aware of the best practices we can employ to best avoid a phishing scam. Earl reviews four distinct layers, from making it difficult for attackers to reach you to implementing an incident response plan, that all contribute to a cohesive cybersecurity plan.

We know this is overwhelming. But, in case you don’t want to do this all on your own… we might as well put it all out there. Earl also discusses how Covalence, FieldEffects fundamental cybersecurity infrastructure, can help. Covalence includes continuous monitoring, proper configuration, awareness training, and more.

We encourage you to watch this webinar and share it with your friends, colleagues, and organizational members. The purpose of #cybersecurityawarenessmonth is to raise awareness around the threat of cyber attacks and increase the recognized importance of having a sufficient cybersecurity infrastructure in place. Security is becoming more important by the day, and WW Works is happy to be your guiding light in navigating its complex nature.
